How Singapore postal codes work
Singapore uses six digits and is among the most precise systems in the world: every building has its own code. The first two digits are the delivery sector (01-82) and the last four identify the building itself. Knowing the code effectively means knowing the block.
How a Singapore address is written
HDB addresses read "Blk <number> <street>", then "Singapore <postcode>". There is no state layer, and the city line is often dropped entirely — the country is the city. Unit numbers take the form #12-345, floor then unit.
In practice
Where people get it wrong
- 01
One building, one code
This is what sets Singapore apart. One wrong digit is a different building, not a neighbouring block, so code and street must correspond exactly.
- 02
The # is a unit number
#12-345 means unit 345 on floor 12. Many overseas forms strip the # character, in which case "Unit 12-345" works.
- 03
No state field
Singapore is a city-state; there is no province in an address. When a form demands a State, put Singapore or the planning area name (Bedok).
FAQ
Questions about Singapore addresses
What does Blk mean in a Singapore address?
Blk is short for Block — the HDB building number. Over eighty per cent of Singaporeans live in HDB flats, making this the most common address shape. Private housing uses a plain number and street with no Blk.
What if I enter only five digits?
It is rejected. Six digits is fixed, wrong length is the error forms catch first, and padding with a zero does not help — the first two digits carry meaning.
Why do the names mix Chinese, Malay and Indian?
Because Singapore is multi-ethnic — roughly seventy per cent Chinese, fifteen per cent Malay, nine per cent Indian. The name pool follows that composition so the output matches the real population.
Are Singapore numbers eight digits?
Yes. Landlines start with 6, mobiles with 8 or 9, eight digits total, with no area code. Internationally it is +65 followed by those eight digits.
The address is fake. Do not pair it with a real inbox.
The part of a synthetic identity most likely to expose you is the email address — it carries your real name, your other accounts, and every sign-up you have ever made. Add an anonymous alias and the identity finally has nothing to do with you.
