Use cases

Email for multiple seller accounts

To be clear up front: email will not make you immune to linkage detection. It is, however, the cheapest link in the chain to get right — and the one most people break themselves.

Where you are

You are probably running into these

  • One store goes down and takes the rest

Once a platform rules that accounts are related, it acts on the whole cluster rather than one account. This category of suspension is the hardest to appeal and frequently permanent.

  • The same mailbox pattern across every store

store1@ and store2@ on one domain, or several storefronts forwarding into a single mailbox — that is handing over the evidence yourself.

  • The address does not read like a real business

A free-mail suffix on a seller account is a negative signal in the platform’s risk profile on its own, and tends to draw extra document requests during review.

Mechanism

What the platform actually compares

Platforms like Amazon watch data points in the hundreds: IP address, shipping address, bank account, card, phone, email, tax ID, business registration, and browser fingerprint. An overlap on any few of them is enough to group two accounts together. Being honest about scope: changing email does nothing about IP or device fingerprint, and those two carry most of the weight — logging into two accounts from one device links them almost every time. What email offers is that it is the cheapest link to make genuinely independent, and the only one entirely under your own control. IP needs residential proxies and the device needs an anti-detect browser; if the email layer is still dirty, the money spent on the other two is wasted.

What to do

Step by step

  1. 01

One alias per store, with no visible pattern

Avoid store1@ / store2@ naming that reveals the relationship at a glance. Each store’s address should look unrelated on its face.

  2. 02

Issue them on a domain you own

Bind your own domain so the suffix carries your brand. To the platform that reads as an actual business rather than a free-mail user, and the review experience differs accordingly.

  3. 03

Forward each alias to a separate inbox

Forwarding everything into one mailbox rebuilds the link on your side. Either separate the destinations, or at minimum make sure the convergence point is invisible to the platform.

  4. 04

Close the other two links at the same time

Residential IP and an isolated device environment have to go in alongside. Doing the email layer alone will not stop the linkage from happening.

Watch out

Easy things to miss

  • Shipping addresses and cards link too

Plenty of sellers get email and IP right, then overlap on a return address or a payout account. Risk systems look at the full set, not one field.

  • Public WiFi is a common accident

Logging into two accounts from one browser at a café or co-working space overlaps fingerprint and IP simultaneously — the classic way this goes wrong.

  • Aliases here must not expire

A storefront runs for years, and performance notices, buyer messages and policy changes all arrive by email. This is not a place for an address with an expiry date.

FAQ

Questions about this case

Does changing email stop accounts being linked?

No. Email is one of hundreds of data points, and IP plus browser fingerprint carry far more weight. Independent addresses are necessary, not sufficient — they keep this particular field from sinking you, and nothing more.

Why a custom domain rather than a plain alias?

Two reasons. Your own suffix reads as a real business in the platform’s merchant profile, and your own domain does not share MX infrastructure, so another user’s behaviour cannot drag you down with it. For multi-store operations that is worth the spend.

Can I manage several stores’ mail in one place?

Technically yes, but think it through: if the platform can see the convergence point, you have built the link yourself. A middle path is to forward in groups to several destinations rather than funnelling everything into one.

Is there a way back after a linkage ruling?

This is the hardest category to appeal and often irreversible. Which is exactly why email, IP and device are worth separating before the stores open rather than after something goes wrong.

Start with one address

Free users can take a disposable address with no signup and no phone number. Long-lived aliases and custom domains are for the accounts you intend to keep.
